10 Must-Know Tips for Maintaining Your Lash Extensions: The Ultimate Guide

When it comes to enhancing our natural beauty, whether you're a volume girlie or a prefer the classic look, eyelash extensions have become a go-to choice for many. They offer the allure of fuller, longer lashes without the need for daily mascara. However, achieving that picture-perfect lash look requires proper care and maintenance. At Lash Goggles, we understand the importance of preserving the longevity and beauty of lash extensions. In this piece, we will share ten must-know tips to help our fellow lash lovers maintain their luscious lash extensions for longer.

1. Gently Cleanse and Brush - Properly cleaning your lash extensions is essential for keeping them looking fresh and free from debris. Use a gentle, oil-free cleanser and a soft lash brush to remove any makeup residue, oils, or impurities every few days. After washing you can use a lash fan or your hair dryer on a low, cool setting to gently dry your extensions to avoid water sitting on them for extended periods of time. Daily brushing will also help fluff those babies out, keeping them looking full and sitting in the right place.

2. Hands Off Policy - Avoid touching or rubbing your lash extensions with your hands as much as possible. Touching can transfer natural oils and dirt to the lashes, potentially weakening the bond between your natural lashes and extensions.

3. Sleep on Your Back - If possible, sleep on your back to minimize the chances of your lashes rubbing against the pillow. This helps prevent premature shedding and/ nor catching on your pillow maintains the lash shape. If the outer edges on one side are always coming off faster, this is an indicator that you may be sleeping on that side more and rubbing your extensions in your sleep. If sleeping on your back is unavoidable you can also invest in a silk pillow case which can help reduce the friction between your lashes and your pillow.

4. Use Lash Goggles in the Shower - To protect your extensions from excess water exposure, wear Lash Goggles during showers and other water-related activities. This simple step can significantly extend the lifespan of your lash extensions.

5. Avoid Waterproof Mascara: Waterproof mascara can be difficult to remove and may weaken the lash adhesive. You shouldn't really need to wear mascara with extensions, however if you are days before refill day or have a special event and are planning on wearing mascara, opt for a non-waterproof, lash extension-friendly mascara if you need to add some extra drama to your lashes.

6. Keep Oil-Based Products Away - Oil-based skincare products and makeup removers can break down the lash adhesive, leading to premature fallout. Stick to oil-free products to preserve the bond between your lashes and extensions.

7. Be Mindful of Eyelash Curlers - While lash extensions already offer a beautiful curl, if you must use an eyelash curler, do it gently and avoid the root area where the extensions are bonded. Keep in min eyelash curlers are damaging not only to your extensions but also your natural lashes as well and really shouldn't be a part of your regular make up routine.

8. Regular Refills - Schedule regular lash extension refills to keep your lashes looking full and fresh. Staying on top of refills helps maintain the desired look and ensures your extensions stay securely attached not to mention your natural lash health. It may look like your extensions are hanging in after 4 weeks however the natural lash cycle is generally 6-8 weeks so as your natural lashes grow out you will need to get some extensions removed and replaced properly to avoid unnecessary pressure on your natural lashes. Your lash tech is also key to the health of your lashes and should be seen 4-6 weekly max to assess how everything is looking, even if your extensions seem full.

9. Avoid Heat - Excessive heat can weaken the lash adhesive, so steer clear of saunas, steam rooms, or hot blow dryers directed at your lashes. This includes campfires and having your face too close to the oven when you open the door!

10. Choose High-Quality Lash Products - Invest in high-quality lash extensions, adhesives, and lash care products. This includes the lash technician you see, the products they are choosing to use - cheaper is not always the cheapest option in the long term.
